Richard Bangs’ Quests Wins Golden Eagle CINE

CINE-GoldenEagle-Laurels-2013

White Nile Media has been honored with a CINE Golden Eagle Award for the production entitled Richard Bangs’ South America: Quest for Wonder (in addition to the two Telly Awards recently received).

This award recognizes the excellence of the production, which has been judged through CINE’s thorough and renowned jury process. For over 50 years, CINE has recognized many of our most celebrated filmmakers, producers and television programs, and it is a privilege to be welcomed into CINE’s long and storied archives.

We wish to thank our partners in this production Orbitz Worldwide, LAN Airlines, TravelSmith, American Public Television (APT) and hosting station KQED.

This public TV special attempted to answer a simple question. If Wonder has its roots in childhood, in an uninhibited response to the beauty and mystery of the new, then what happens when we grow up? What stirs us as adults?

Richard answers this question by tracing the contours of wonder on a journey across South America. From the magnificent displays of grand nature; to the riddles that ripple through time; to the mystic power of ancient beauty; to the marvels of diversity at play on a living canvas, the Quest radiates to four of the greatest wonders on the planet, Iguaçu Falls in Brazil and Argentina; Easter Island in Chile; the ruins of Machu Picchu in Peru; and the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador.

Launched 55 years ago with the mission of selecting American films for international film festivals, the founders of CINE chose its name, the Council on International Nontheatrical Events, to create the acronym CINE.  From its earliest days, CINE utilized (and still utilizes) a jury system to choose the best among the many films submitted, honoring them with the CINE Golden Eagle Award. In an interview with CINE, Master filmmaker Ken Burns, recalled his winning the Golden Eagle for his first film, Brooklyn Bridge, in 1981, as like “being admitted to the club.” .

In the more than half century since its first competition, CINE alumni whose films have made the world laugh, cry, think, argue and change, include Mr. Burns, Mel Brooks, Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, Spike Lee, Stanley Nelson, Mira Nair, Robert Zemeckis, Pixar Animation Studios, Quincy Jones and Mike Nichols. And that’s just a partial list.
