There is a definite need to right the record on the below information from Richard Bangs latest writings:

Trust me, I am no coward and previous experience on the Rio Balsas in Mexico the year before, taught me that the Baro was no river to run ! I was in Ethiopia to run the Omo River and return to my family and the Smithsonian with an Ethnographic film documentary on the tribal peoples for research and a lecture series.

I had no desire to lose everything on a raging river without reason and I told this to Angus the night before their fateful tragedy. He chose to take the plunge with Richard.

As for the rest, it is not unusual for a protege to attack his mentor......I got Richard a start in the business including a membership in The Explorers Club, a start in publishing and the lecture business and financing to make his dream come true. His Father, an operative in the Langley-based CIA, had vetted me thoroughly prior to our expedition and Richard had the benefit of hospitality and kindness given to him at our home in Somers Point by my young wife and myself on numerous occasions.

Just so you know, the beautiful coastline shot you have featured above in your paragraph about Somaliland is actually a view of the 12 Apostles on the Great Ocean Road in New South Wales, Australia...

A little geographic honesty here, you know?

Very educational and interesting programs. However, Mr. Bangs utter lack of manners by wearing his hat indoors, in peoples homes and in restaurants contribute to the world's opinion that Americans are uncouth. Such a shame for an otherwise excellent program.
